Within the context of our lineage there are two practices of central importance. We practice them everyday and have done so without interruption for the last 30 years.

Riwo Sangchö

“Riwo Sangchö, or literally ‘Mountain Smoke Offering’, is a famous practice of sang offering – a practice of offering fragrant incense smoke. It is a powerful Tibetan Buddhist ritual practice, for purification, removing obstacles, and fulfilling wishes by making fragrant smoke offerings to Buddhas, protectors, and all beings, involving aromatic substances burned in a special fire.

It is a terma (spiritual treasure) that was hidden by Guru Rinpoche and revealed in the seventeenth century by the great yogin and tertön Lhatsün Namkha Jikmé (1597-1653), who brought the Dharma to Sikkim, as part of the profound Dharma-cycle of Rigdzin Sokdrup, Accomplishing the Life-Force of the Vidyadharas. From the many ways, elaborate or condensed, of doing this practice, Dudjom Rinpoche composed an abbreviated version for daily practice, this is what is followed by the Rigpa sangha.“

Tendrel Nyesel

Tendrel Nyesel is a terma (spiritual treasure) revealed by Tertön Sogyal. It is a profound practice dedicated to eliminating (sel) obstacles or flaws (nyé) in the web of interdependent circumstances (tendrel) that shape our lives.

The practice invokes Guru Padmasambhava, together with the buddhas and bodhisattvas and the mandalas of the hundred peaceful and wrathful deities, including Tsokchen Düpa, Lama Gongdü, and Kagyé. Through these invocations, Tendrel Nyesel has the power to transform adversity and restore auspicious conditions.
