The Unaltered Meditation of the Great Perfection
‘It is knowing the one thing that liberates all.”
Dzogchen Retreat with Patrick Gaffney
14 – 23 March (Two Booking Options Available)
The most profound approach of meditation is to abide by the recognition of the radiant and limitless expanse of the nature of mind.
Patrick will begin his teachings with a weekend retreat open to the entire Rigpa Sangha from Friday 14 to Monday 17 March.
Then from Tuesday 18 to Sunday 23 March, there will be a rare and precious opportunity to receive Dzogchen teachings from Patrick Gaffney.
In this retreat, Patrick Gaffney will guide us in an exploration of Dzogchen meditation, drawing from the extraordinary instructions of the great master Patrul Rinpoche and from Sogyal Rinpoche’s experiential teachings on the nature of mind.
For Dzogchen mandala students and experienced Ngöndro students, this retreat is a rare opportunity to be immersed in the deepest stream of teachings within the Tibetan Buddhist tradition in the breathtaking environment of Dzogchen Beara.
For the first time, Patrick Gaffney will be leading a retreat for the Rigpa Sangha in the new temple in Dzogchen Beara.
This event is open to members of the Rigpa Dzogchen Mandala.
On this occasion Patrick has also allowed Ngöndro Mandala students to receive these teaching, if they have:
- Have taken Refuge and Bodhisattva vows,
- Have a solid foundation and experience of the principles and practices of the Mahayana, such as training in bodhichitta and lojong,
- Have received extensive teachings (not just introductory ones) on all the ngöndro practices, including guru yoga,
- Have completed at least 25% of the ngöndro accumulations and are on track to continue, and
- Have already received at least one Vajrayana empowerment.
Dzogchen Beara is a not-for-profit charity. The fees are set at a minimum to cover the costs of this event but we have many other daily expenses to keep the centre open. Please consider making a donation where indicated during your booking.

The retreat will be held in our new Dzogchen Beara Temple. With expansive views across the bay, the temple is a modern example of a traditional Tibetan monastery, a form of architecture designed to be an inspiring symbol of the Buddha’s teachings for our times
