Understanding Death – Online
Introduction to the Tibetan Buddhist View of Death and Dying
4 Evenings Online with Kirsten DeLeo
Wednesdays 7pm to 8:30pm, 5 February to 26 February (Irish Time)
Death is a hard subject to look at and talk about, yet it touches us all. This 4-part online series explores the Tibetan Buddhist teachings and their radical vision for living and dying. They can offer us courage and inspiration to live fully and even joyfully through times of great uncertainty. Death here is compared to a mirror in which not only the meaning of death but life is reflected. And, our deepest potential as human beings.
Drawing from the ground-breaking The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, each session allows time for personal reflection and discussion. The sessions are led by Kirsten DeLeo, a meditation teacher, longtime Buddhist practitioner, end-of-life carer and author.
Session 1 “Will we die?”
Exploring our personal understanding and Buddha’s life story
Session 2 “What can we rely on?”
Reflecting on impermanence and developing the spirit of a warrior
Session 3 “What happens when we die?”
The moment of death and the heart advice on how we can prepare practically, emotionally and spiritually
Session 4 “Are we ready?”
Developing confidence and the practice of Essential Phowa
“These sessions have gently made me look at things I have been avoiding about how I currently live my life and I have also realised how much grief I am carrying more than I thought. I liked that Kirsten explained the practices that can help with all of these emotions and also give space for understanding or being compassionate to myself.” Tanya Carroll
